Abstract:  Often patients come to us with the desire to get better but the inability to describe what "better" means for them. Clinical outcomes and adherence to home programs are better when the activities done in therapy reflect the patients' values, priorities, and needs. This webinar will discuss techniques such as motivational interviewing, goal attainment scaling, and ethnographic interviewing to help patients clarify their goals and develop meaningful skills. Bring your ideas and tips to share during the interactive portion of this discussion.

Learning Objectives: As a result of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Formulate questions to help patients identify their desired goals of rehab.
2. Describe communication styles and skills that are more likely to increase patient engagement for goal-setting.
3. Identify ways within the SLP scope of practice where clinicians may address health disparities through a well-crafted care plan.
